Job Description

Uganda Christian University (UCU) is hiring a Staff Writer Intern to join the University Newsroom team at our Main Campus. We are looking for a creative and driven recent UCU Mass Communication graduate with a passion for storytelling. As a Staff Writer Intern, you will help cover University news, profile stories, events, and feature pieces — combining strong writing with photography and visual layout work to bring UCU stories to life. Uganda Christian University is a Centre of Excellence in the Heart of Africa, with the Main Campus in Mukono and additional campuses across the country.

Requirements

Recent degree in Mass Communication from Uganda Christian University (UCU)
Strong writing and editing skills with a passion for storytelling
Photography skills (ability to take and select strong news / feature photos)
Proficiency in Adobe InDesign for layout work
Working knowledge of MS Office and basic newsroom workflow tools
Strong attention to detail, ethics, and ability to work to deadlines
Creativity, drive, and willingness to learn from senior editors

Responsibilities

Research, pitch, write and edit news stories, features, profiles and event coverage for the University Newsroom
Take photographs to accompany stories and capture University events and campus life
Lay out content using Adobe InDesign for newsletters, magazines and digital publications
Collaborate with editors, photographers and other newsroom staff on assignments and deadlines
Conduct interviews with students, staff, faculty, alumni and guests
Support the newsroom on social media, web stories and other multimedia content as needed
Maintain accuracy, ethics and UCU brand standards in all stories produced
